The 54th is committed to empowering young people from underserved communities with the confidence, leadership skills, life skills and, most importantly, discipline necessary to become responsible, independent and successful adults. Through mentorship, structured guidance, leadership development and real-world experience, we teach the value of self-discipline, integrity and accountability.
We believe preparing young people for success goes beyond academics. Education remains an important foundation, but independence and achievement also require practical life skills, employment readiness and the ability to navigate a world that is constantly changing. Our goal is to help young people become responsible, independent leaders within their communities.
The 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment became one of the most recognized Black regiments of the American Civil War. Its soldiers demonstrated courage, discipline and commitment in the face of extraordinary barriers.
Our program does not prepare young people for combat. We carry forward the values behind that legacy: discipline, responsibility, perseverance, service and the courage to lead. The name “The 54th” reminds our youth that leadership is built through character and that their choices can leave a legacy for the people who come after them.
Our work centers on helping youth make intelligent, calculated decisions, remain composed under pressure, prepare for employment, learn practical responsibilities, advocate for their communities and grow into the strongest version of themselves.
Enrollment, mentorship, volunteer and partnership information will be available here as The 54th expands.
